Implementation of the Project “CyberArrange System for Automated IT System Modeling” Has Begun

CyberArrange has launched the implementation of an NPOO-funded project aimed at developing a system for automated IT system modeling and the generation of cybersecurity exercises. The objective is to reach TRL 6 through research, development, and prototype validation in a relevant environment, while strengthening the link between scientific research and market application and enhancing the entrepreneurial competencies of a young researcher.

NPOO Funding

The implementation of the project CyberArrange System for Automated IT System Modeling – NPOO.C3.2.R2-I1.04.0025 has begun. The project is co-financed under the NPOO public call Start-up/Spin-off Enterprises of Young Researchers (NPOO.C3.2.R2-I1.04).

The beneficiary is CyberArrange Security Solutions j.d.o.o., based in Gabonjina. The project aims to develop a cybersecurity exercise generator to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6.

The total project value is EUR 199,341.89, of which EUR 197,458.46 is funded through NPOO grants.

Although the project was initially planned to run from October 1, 2023 to October 1, 2025, its duration was extended to March 31, 2026.

Automated Generation of Cybersecurity Exercises

The project focuses on developing a system that enables automated IT system modeling and the generation of customized cybersecurity exercises.

In practice, this involves developing a software solution that:

  • models IT infrastructure based on defined parameters
  • generates attack and defense scenarios
  • enables rapid creation of multiple exercise variants
  • reduces the time and cost required to prepare cyber ranges

The objective is to automate a process that is currently largely manual, time-consuming, and costly, and to make it scalable.

The project builds on the scientific research conducted by CyberArrange’s founder and director, Ivan Kovačević. Researchers in cybersecurity from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb, are also involved in the implementation, ensuring a strong link between academic research and market application.

Development of Entrepreneurial Skills of the Young Researcher

In addition to technical product development, the project includes a strong capacity-building component focused on the young researcher.

Through the project, Ivan Kovačević will develop the entrepreneurial and managerial competencies necessary to lead a technology start-up. This includes:

  • study visits to European providers of cybersecurity exercise services
  • exchange of knowledge and experience with relevant industry stakeholders
  • participation in specialized training programs in business management, product development, and commercialization of research results

In this way, the project contributes not only to technological advancement but also to strengthening the capacity of young researchers to establish and lead innovative enterprises.

This project represents an important milestone in the development of CyberArrange — from a research-driven concept to a validated technological solution ready for further commercialization and broader application in the field of cybersecurity.
